Wilpattu National Park is one of Sri Lanka’s oldest wildlife parks. Wilpattu’s varied natural environments; coastal belt, natural lakes (villus), cliff tops, scrub lands, open grasslands and heavy forest provide for numerous species of animals.

This National Park offer the best chances for sloth bear sightings in Sri Lanka. Wilpattu is specially well-known for its sloth bears. Elephants, water buffalos, and spotted deers can be also seen here. And the other biggest attraction at Wilpattu is Leopard. Over 31 species of Mammals have been recorded in Wilpattu. Mugger Crocodiles are frequently seen in the Villus.
